"Du skall inga andra hundar hava jämte oss, det låter mina hundar förstå, och jag kommer inte att lura på dem någon heller, jag näms knappt kela med andras hundar därför att jag uppenbarligen luktar avskyvärt när jag kommer nära de mina igen. Men i tankarna måste jag medge att jag bedrar dem i bland och efter att ha sörjt hundar så många gånger , så djupt och så ofruktsamt , vill jag åtminstone försöka vara mindre sentimental i mitt eget sjunde decennium. Jag har inte riktigt råd att vara utan hund någon längre tid.
